Northern Shoveler: Female decrescendo lower than teal, faster than Mallard or Gadwall. • Female gives a distinctive, short, two-syllable quack (near nest) as well as a single husky quack. • Male gives an odd two-syllable shuck-shuck; sometimes single notes repeated evenly. • Male wing whistle low and thumping.
