White-breasted Nuthatch: Song is a series of nasal whistles, more pure-toned than Red-breasted; lower-pitched in eastern populations. Call more variable regionally: On the Pacific Coast, a high, vibrant aair, often doubled; east of the Rockies, a lower, huskier aarh, often doubled; in the Interior West, a more purring or trilled pidr-pidr-pidr, usually given in a series. All calls have a rougher tone than Red-breasted.
