Spruce Grouse: Display is a short, rapid wing flutter; may sound like a distant rumble of thunder; birds of the Pacific Northwest ("Franklin''s") produce two loud wing claps at the end of this flutter, lacking in birds of the North and East ("Taiga"). Also gives soft, level-pitched clucks, more guttural and vibrant than Ruffed Grouse.
